HOMESPUN guitar -- PARALLEL WORLD MUSIC

2 skulls-b.jpg
The guitar pieces below are drafts of tunes I have been working on for a while -- in some cases, a long while. Most of them were written as instances of what I call "Parallel World Music." I was raised in a classically oriented household, but my Hungarian parents also had a great love of folk music, especially field recordings by devoted ethnomusicologists of "pure fountain" music by non-professional folk performers. Though I studied classical violin for almost fifteen years, my real love has always been the steel-string acoustic guitar and my ambition for it has been to make music that sounds like the folk music of an imaginary culture. Most of these tunes are in one or another open tuning. (Dropped-D, DADGAD, DGDGAD, Open C or CGD#GCE). Some of them were cores of the setlist of Wabi Sabi, a Bloomington-based guitar-hand drum duo with my partner and collaborator, Pat Petro.
